I just finished Lois Leveen's Juliet's Nurse, and it was a breath of fresh air. While the story surrounds the classic Romeo & Juliet tale, it tells it through the eyes of Juliet's beloved nurse and reveals an entirely different backstory. Definitely worth checking out for anyone who enjoyed the original, or even just the movie!

Summer is winding down, and I've finally gotten my hands on a copy of Emma Staub's The Vacationers. It's been on my reading list since May, and I thought it was the perfect book to end the summer. I've just started it, but so far, so good! Have you read it? What did you think?
As a completely self-acknowledged history geek, I'm not afraid to admit I love a good historical novel. Romanovs, (I always hope that somehow things will end better for them), Civil War (It's never completely Gone With the Wind....see what I did there. OK, forgive me, it's been a long day), and French Revolution (I think Marie Antoinette was misunderstood) are favorites. However, what I really enjoy, and what I think is the most interesting, are stories that speak to the women of the respective eras - how they lived, who they loved, how the survived. Since history books are often limited to the male-perspective, it's often in historical fiction, where like-minded authors have put together pieces of female history, where I get my fix.
Right now, I'm reading Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution. I've just started, but I can tell that by the end, I'll be heading to Times Square with all the tourists to check out the display for myself!
